In the late 20's, the French tennis player Rene Lacoste designed and had her cotton shirts made in a particular mesh. These shirts revolutionized sportswear. Thus, in collaboration with the hat maker André Gillier, René Lacoste created the Lacoste brand in 1933. It offered a line of designer polo shirts with a crocodile-shaped logo in tribute to his nickname in the world of tennis. Shirts and polo shirts were available in a range of colours and patterns and that make the incredible Lacoste a trans-generational brand. In 1968, Lacoste perfumes appeared under the leadership of Jean Patou. The brand is exported internationally and conveys the image of chic French sportswear. In 2000 there was a turn in creativity with the arrival of the designer Christophe Lemaire as creative director. Two years later, the first runway was organized by Lacoste. In 2010, the Portuguese designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista became creative director. Felipe Oliveira Baptista developed the spirit of "Unconventional Chic", the definition of the Lacoste brand, through clothing lines for men, women, children, as well as perfumes and accessories.
Born in 1975 in Portugal, Felipe Oliveira Baptista began studying architecture and photography in London and eventually redirected to fashion. A promising young designer, Felipe won the prestigious Hyeres Festival in 2002 and the Andam Prize twice. After a stint at Max Mara and Cerruti, he became assistant to Christophe Lemaire. In 2003 he founded his eponymous label which reaped huge success. Seven years later, he entered the Lacoste house as creative director. Bold and visionary, Felipe Oliveira Baptista mixes street wear and elegance with a genius touch. He knows how to give a second life to sportswear with chic silhouettes that are so dear to the brand.
