Tory Burch is a brand that is characterized by luxury products which are inspired by classic American sportswear with an eclectic sensibility at affordable prices. The brand embodies the personal style and spirit of its designer. Perceiving a gap in the market for sophisticated clothing and accessories at affordable prices, Tory wanted to create her own line for women of all ages. The self-titled Tory Burch line was launched in February of 2004 and consists of ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes and jewellery. Bucking the ever popular minimalist trend of retail outlets at the time, Tory decorated her first boutique in New York to look like a room in her own home. The success was immediate, and the store was almost completely emptied on opening day. Her style is described as bourgeois-bohemian, appealing to women because it is easy to adopt and adapt to their individual styles. From Blake Lively, Cameron Diaz, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez, and Gwyneth Paltrow to Hilary Swank, celebrities in every shape and size can be seen wearing the Tory Burch collection.
Tory Burch was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in art history, she moved to New York to begin her career in the fashion industry. She has worked for some of the most influential designers in America, such as Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, and Narcisco Rodriguez at Loewe. Tory Burch has received several awards from the fashion industry, including the CFDA’s Accessories Designer of the Year award in 2008. In 2005, she received the Rising Star award for Best New Retail Concept from the International Fashion Group. Tory has even been nominated by Forbes in 2010 as one of the most influential women in the world. The designer has been greatly influenced by the unique styles of her parents, Buddy and Reva, and also draws inspiration from her love of art, music, culture and travel: all reflected in her collections. Graphic prints, bold colors and unique details are the signature of the Tory Burch brand.
