About the Brand
The brand Balmain was founded in 1945, when Pierre Balmain decided to create his own label. He plays with volume effects, colours, materials, cuttings to elaborate a pointed fashion. Parisians are conquered. A few times after his collection was launched, Pierre Balmain launches his first perfume named “Elysée 64/83”. Then other follows: “Vent vert” and also “Jolie Dame”. The designer decided to create a ready-to-wear collection “Pierre Balmain Florilège”. We can find the feature of the house in this first collection. A particular work is done on the structure. The success of the brand is international. Balmain draws costumes for the Olympics games of 1968: a consecration. In 2006, Christoph Decarnin becomes very important for the brand. He rethinks the standards which made the success of the house. The style becomes more sensual, rock and graphic. Celebrities wear Balmain pieces to shine on the red carpet. Audrey Tautou, Marion Cotillard and also Gwyneth Paltrow are faithful to this brand. The Balmain woman is glamour, sexy and rock. Years went by and the success keeps growing. Each year Balmain imposes his “it”item of the moment: the red leopard jeans during the autumn/Winter 2008 collection, waisted jackets with shoulder-pad during autumn /Winter 2009 collection and also the bleach hole jeans during the collection Spring/Summer 2009.
Olivier Rousteing, assistant to Balmain's last designer - Christoph Decarnin, has taken over as creative director. He knows the label inside and out as he is truly an insider as he has learned all he knows from within the walls of the Blamin Fashion House. He is 25 and is set to become THE new reigning figure of the fashion world. Before becoming Decarnin's assistant in 2009, Olivier was the designer of the men and women's ready-to-wear collection for Roberto Cavalli. Olivier Rousteing has an important challenge ahead of him: staying faithful to the image of the house and rethinking the classics with a fresh eye. A new era is coming for Balmain: an era when talent is more essential than the name!
Autumn/Winter 2016-17 Collection
The new collection for spring summer 2015 by Balmain is breath of fresh air in terms of sunglasses. We find retro futuristic glasses and half rimmed frames that demonstrate originality for the summer. The pieces are worked, the colours are simple but very classy. The frames are made in France and subtle details such as the mark on the side of the arms reveal an absolute sophistication.
