J.W. Anderson

For his Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection, Jonathan Anderson chose to work on hyperfemininity, developing a silhouette, growing in intensity and then falling back on a sleek line to start over. This season, dresses extend to mid-calf and leather jackets are shortened to rib-length. As always, the designer has not kept it too simple. His vision of practicality includes chest pockets and a mix of overlaying fabrics. The brand’s bestseller for several seasons, the Pierce bag, is now embellished with ribbon trims floating along with each one of the models’ footsteps. Sometimes it just takes a tiny detail to make a difference.

Few fashion labels have had as much success as the JW Anderson brand. The Irish designer founded his eponymous label in 2008. It all started with a successful collection of accessories that drove Jonathan Anderson to create a men’s ready-to-wear collection. A rewarding experience since the collection caught the eye of the British Fashion Council, which offered him sponsorship. The fashion designer then worked on several successful collaborations with Topman. In 2010, facing the growing demand, he designed a women’s collection with Topshop. Once again, the collection was spotted by the British Fashion Council and won a second sponsorship NewGen, this time in the womenswear category. One year later, Jonathan Anderson presented his first women's ready-to-wear collection at London Fashion Week. Since its debuts, the brand has won numerous awards, including the British Fashion Awards for  ‘Emerging Talent, Ready-to-Wear’ (2012), ‘The New Establishment Award’ (2013) and 'Menswear Designer of the Year' (2014).

Jonathan William Anderson was born in 1984 in Northern Ireland. He initially aimed to become an actor. At the age of 18, he moved to Washington to fulfill his dream but quickly flew back home to study in the United Kingdom at the London College of Fashion, where he graduated in 2005. The fashion designer then launched his first men's collection under the JW Anderson brand in 2008. It was a success and initiated several collaborations with Topman, then with Topshop for a first women's collection in 2010. In February 2011, Jonathan Anderson presented his first women's ready-to-wear collection under the JW Anderson brand at London Fashion Week. The following year, he worked on another capsule collection with Topshop: stores were out of stock a few hours after its release. Donatella Versace then called on him to direct Versus, the Versace widespread collection. Jonathan Anderson presented his first line in June 2013. J.W. Anderson reached the top in September 2013, when LVMH invested in his brand and promoted him Creative Director of Loewe. Two years later, he became the first designer to receive simultaneously Menswear and Womenswear Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.
