About the Brand
From the printed trompe l'oeil 3D embroidery, the Greek designer Mary Katrantzou establishes her innovative aesthetics and talent for mixing colours, textures and prints. Drawing inspiration from the Russian Constructivism, film posters of the 1970s, vintage perfume bottles or collectibles such as Faberge eggs or Ming vases, she seduces and surprises with creative plays on print, textures and colours and her strong and unique embroidery. Her collection extends from bags, stunning and minimalist jewellery and graphic harmony. These true collectors pieces are revisited each season.
Born in Athens in 1983, to interior architect and designer parents, Mary Katrantzou was interested in design from an early age. After completing studies in architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design, she turned to fashion and started her studies at the Central Saint Martins School of Design in London where she graduated in 2008. Her first collection was full of kaleidoscopic prints, exquisite graphic corpses, Rorschach patterns and trompe l'oeil effects. Winner of the Swiss Textile Award in 2010 and the Swarovski prize of the best ready-to-wear at the British Fashion Awards in 2011, the designer multiplies her awards and continues to seduce from runways or the appearance of her dresses on the red carpet.
Autumn/Winter 2016-17 Collection
By contrasting heritage and technology, minimalism and opulence, Mary Katrantzou focuses on the relationship of the artistic movement of Horror Vacui, based on filling entire surfaces of canvas with a twist of modernism, born in reaction and based on 'sketch lines. It thus redefines the parameters of modern luxury, questioning the perception of status, values and good taste.
