Vivienne Westwood

About the Brand

She began designing in 1971, along with her partner Malcolm McLaren, they opened a rock style store when London was at the forefront of cultural trends. With the rise of punk, in 1976, Vivienne Westwood brings the brand on the front of the stage. The group "The Sex Pistols" was dressed in Westwood during their first concert. In 1983 the designer decides to stand on her own and stop her collaboration with Malcolm McLaren. In 1989 she won the Best Designer of the Year. In 1990 the collection "Portrait" was a turning point for the home. Indeed, Vivienne Westwood selects each item from her collection with the most meticulous care in the manner of an impressionist painting. The collection is also more feminine. In 1996, she made all the costumes for the opera "The Three Penny Opera". She then launched perfumes. The year 2000 marks the arrival of her first perfume "Boudoir" followed by "Libertine" and of "Anglomania" in 2005. In 2008, she collaborated with Melissa, the Brazilian designer, to create a line of recycled PVC shoes.

Designer

In 1993 Vivienne Westwood married Andreas Kronthaler whom she met whilst teaching in Vienna. She remains married to him today and have achieved and created some extremely influential fashion over the years together. Andreas Kronthaler mixes Tradition and modernity. He is the creative strength and the inspiration of the fashion house. Andreas declared: “Wearing high quality clothes helps living a better life. Cloth helps you. And I think, mainly when you are depressed, get dressed to feel better!”

Autumn/Winter 2016-17 Collection

"Mirror the World" is the name that Vivienne Westwood has given to her Spring-Summer collection 2016 in reference to Venice, saving the city from the effects and impacts of climate change. It's the Italian city and its 'carnivals' that have influenced the designer. These influences are notably apparent through the 'Harlequin' patterns, polka dots and flowers on the iconic Yasmine, Sharlenemania and Polkamania bags. The adaption of UNISEX tailoring also has an important place in the collection with the Tartan print that dresses the Vivienne's Bag.
