For the Fall/Winter 2017-18, the DKNY brand has gone back to basics with a both urban and young collection. Midi skirts mingle with sweaters and hoodies, while ripped jeans are slightly rebellious and fur jackets help us cope with the cold season. The color palette is simple, ranging from black to white and burgundy. The result is an easy fitting collection that matches with everything. Donna Kara, who already managed her eponymous brand since 1984, launched the DKNY diffusion line in 1989. Four years earlier, the designer had become famous by offering modern and chic basics that were easy to mix and match to create a versatile wardrobe. With this new line, she intended to reach a younger target. Success was immediate and in 1991, the fashion designer launched DKNY Jeans, followed in 1992 by DKNY for Men. She also started a perfume line shortly after that. In 1997, Donna Kara quit her position as President but continued as Creative Director of all ranges. Four years later, LVMH bought the Donna Karan New York brand and all the affiliated lines. The group sold them in 2016 to the G-III Apparel Group.

In April 2015, Dao Yi-Chow and Maxwell Osborne from the Public School brand were named Creative Directors of DKNY, a position they left in December 2016. The DKNY woman is young and urban, likes comfort, and masters style. Like Donna Karan New York, its parent brand, DKNY offers chic basics that are easy to mix and match. The label’s creative studio is in charge of the collections since the departure of designers Dao Yi-Chow and Maxwell Osborne in December 2016.
