When he invented gabardine in 1879, Thomas Burberry could not have known that his fabric would be used to inspire a leather bag a century later. The brand's heritage is front and centre in its new designs, but always with a modern rework. The Trench leather is a prime example, as it is inspired by the traditional gabardine and is used in this season's DK88 bag. Launched in June 2017, taking inspiration from the gabardine's reference code in the workshop, this compact little day bag is a love letter to British fashion, classic and timeless.

Christopher Bailey’s 2018 Spring-Summer collection, his last for Burberry, mixed diverse influences with the British fashion house’s well-established, delicate aesthetic. A swan song that included shapes and materials that fans of the brand know well, like these bucket hats, peaked caps, and fanny packs in Check but also some newcomers like the Belt Bag, inspired by the brand’s iconic trench. Beautifully retracing a seventeen-year career while opening the door to a future filled with discoveries.

By exploring unique brand innovations such as Burberry Acoustic, Art of the Trench and fully immersive runway shows, Burberry continues to innovate, connecting heritage with cutting-edge technology and digital media. 

 

Based in London under the direction of Creative Director Christopher Bailey, the brand is internationally renowned for its innovative approach to design and fabrics. After graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1994, the designer joined Donna Karan and Gucci before being hired by Burberry in 2001. Christopher Bailey has a natural talent for combining tradition and innovation and led the brand in a unique and modern leadership without losing its unique history. By choosing young British talent to represent the brand, it continues to evolve and refresh. The latest campaigns have featured the likes of Cara Delevingne, Eddie Redmayne, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and recently Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge. Advertising campaigns were photographed by the famous Peruvian photographer Mario Testino. In 2009, Bailey was elected designer of the year and was honored with the Order of the British Empire for his services to the fashion industry. In 2013, he received an honorary doctorate from his former university, the Royal College of Art. In Décember 2017, Christopher Bailey announces his departure from the brand. A few months lather, in March 2018, Riccardo Tisci is announced as the new artistic director.
