For the Polo Ralph Lauren Fall/Winter 2018 collection, the preppy style master, Ralph Lauren, has chosen to further explore his favorite territory. The range launched recently (in 2014) features many nicely cut jackets, cable knit fitted sweaters and chest embroidered logo shirts. Elegantly casual dresses and skirts still play the main part in this collection, supported by accessories (recently added to the range). The new Polo Ralph Lauren accessories are quite promising and will definitely make their way in the world this winter. Go for the small and classic Lennox bag, the antique metal detail Brooke crossbody, the very cool fringed Montana messenger or the label’s famous canvas bags.

Ralph Lauren first founded his label in 1967 with a tie line. He later became renowned for designing men’s suits, then he released a collection of women’s suits (worn by Diane Keaton in the Woody Allen film “Annie Hall”). In 1972, he democratized the polo shirt, which became one of his best-sellers. Famous for his ultra-preppy style, he continued to develop his label with new ranges and activities: in 1978, he released his first men’s and women’s fragrances, Polo and Lauren.

The Polo for Women line was not launched until 2014: a women’s essentials range inspired by the men’s collection.

 

Ralph Lauren was born on October 14th 1939 in The Bronx, New York. In 1962, after graduating, he enrolled in the US Army. He served for two years then started his career in fashion as a sales assistant for Brooks Brothers. He became renowned in 1967 as he was working for a tie manufacturer, Beau Brummell. He convinced the company’s president to let him develop his own line, Polo. Later he designed men’s, then women’s ready-to-wear collections, then numerous other lines (some still in business): Rugby, Purple Label, Black Label, Double RL…

Ralph Lauren, who is famous for his work ethic, won the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award in 1992, before receiving a second CFDA recognition in 2007, the American Fashion Legend Award.

In 2015, he stepped down as CEO of the company but continues as Creative Director.
