Mansur Gavriel took things down to the tiniest of the tiny with the Mini Mini Buckets, and this season the design team are going in the other direction. The American brand takes the tote to the next level, in smooth and stiff leathers, these are the bags you need to get through the busiest of days. The brand’s signature minimalism is still in evidence, and these newcomers will surely be at home in your wardrobe. But fans of the smaller pieces need not fear, the house classics, the Circle, the Crossbody and the Bucket aren’t going anywhere and even get a few additions to the stable. A low-key update.
Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel met in 2010 at a The xx concert in Los Angeles. The two designers-to-be then became friends and thought of creating their own label in 2012. They wanted to offer elegant and refined bags made of high-end vegetable-tanned leather. Mansur Gavriel presented their two first creations in June 2013: the Bucket (that became iconic) and the Tote that reflected a whole new vision of the accessory with its simple shape and contrasting lining. In February 2016, the label developed a shoe line, then a ready-to-wear collection in the fall 2017.
Floriana Gavriel studied at the University of Arts Bremen in Germany while Rachel Mansur attended classes at the Rhode Island School of Design. Their label, Mansur Gavriel, is currently based in New York. After a successful start in 2013, the fashion house now offers bags, shoes, as well as women’s ready-to wear, and recently created a men’s accessory line. The two designers received the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design at the CFDA Fashion Awards in 2015. The following year they won the CFDA Accessories Designer of the Year Award.
