Play with mystery... and style
Last but not least, sunglasses are the ultimate accessory for adding a touch of mystery to your look. A tried-and-tested method among film stars since Hollywood's beginnings, shades are the perfect way to spice up a boring outfit or pass incognito in the street. And since fashion is now evolving to suit everyone’s needs, there are no limits on styles. Spotted on the catwalks of several designers this season, they can adapt to any trend: aviators for the neo-bourgeois looks of Hedi Slimane at Celine, pink at Kenzo, mirrored at Dior, smoked for the arty collection by Loewe, retro for Fendi, 90s at Aalto, mini at Alexander Wang and finally maxi for Balenciaga and Elie Saab. For Autumn/Winter 2019, no outfit is complete without a trusty pair of shades. All you have to do now is find the ones that suit you best.

Though they may not be the first thing to come to mind when planning your winter wardrobe, sunglasses are nevertheless an essential. Designed to protect our eyes from the sun, they are much more than a mere ornament touted by brands to help us put the finishing touches to our style. Time to take a closer look.
Protect your eyes
It's easy to forget, but the winter sun can be just as aggressive as the one in which we love to bask in summer. And at the risk of being a killjoy, sunglasses are not just a style accessory: they are, above all, a tool for protecting our retina from the sun's harmful rays. Also, the more timid among you will be pleased to learn that sunglasses are not just an accessory designed for the most fashionable wearers, they're actually an instrument for well-being. And there's no need to suggest a ski trip to justify wearing your shades in the middle of November: enjoying a relaxing drink on a heated terrace or a stroll on a sunny afternoon are just as valid a reason as racing down a red run. Because even though the sun might be hidden away, it is still definitely there and its reflections on snow and water are particularly dangerous.
Add a touch of colour
The other advantage of sunglasses is, of course, the touch of style they bring to any look. In addition to shades with black lenses, the low season is the perfect opportunity to give tinted styles or more colourful lenses a try. Which works out well, since this season brands have decided once again to unleash their creativity: from fluorescent pink at Gucci to orange and ultraviolet at Balenciaga, not to mention the various salmon touches throughout the different eyewear collections.
Frame-wise, it's all about originality, especially at Saint Laurent where the iconic SL213 Lily shades are adorned with a zebra print, and at Gucci where stripes serve as a colourful background to the mantras of the Florence-based brand.
