From videoconferences to FaceTime calls, Skype chats, Instagram stories and more, virtual meetings are keeping us connected and impromptu calls can arrive any time... But don’t panic! Take a look at our top tips for throwing together the perfect WFH style for successful on-screen outfits and fashionable lockdown looks.

Focus on the top

Working from home inevitably comes with its own set of fashion rules: it should be stylish and professional, well put-together but not overly so. One fail-safe tactic is to focus on the top, which has the advantage of letting you discreetly lounge around in your favourite comfy joggers. To enhance a shirt with expertly rolled-up sleeves or an oversized cosy sweater, opt for generously sized jewellery, preferably in gold, to make it more noticeable on screen. Some of our favourites include the geometric and graphic pieces by Charlotte Chesnais, Versace's "Tribute Medusa" clips and earrings (featuring the medusa icon, famous effigy of the fashion house) and Alighieri's medallion necklaces, inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy. It's the perfect way to add a touch of beauty and flamboyance to your #ootd, and a great way to keep some semblance of normality in your morning routine.

Make comfort a priority

Mule season is upon us, so why not take the opportunity to choose your perfect pair? Easy to slip on and off, they've quickly become our ideal lockdown partners for staying chic in the comfort of our living room. The perfect indoor shoes, mules date back to Ancient Rome, when courtesans wore them for the sake of practicality – since you can slide them on and off in a flash. Best worn with kooky socks or bare feet, cropped jeans and a white T-shirt. We love them with a small heel like the ones from By Far, or with a slight wedge in clog mode at Jacquemus, or simply understated and flat at Balenciaga. For maximum comfort and feel-good vibes, we’re fans of the MM6 Maison Margiela flip-flops made from ultra-soft terry towelling.

Don't forget to have fun

At lunchtime, head to the window to soak up some sunshine (assuming it stays with us) and pretend you're sitting back on a sunny terrace or beach. Go full-on Jackie O and impress your neighbours with some slightly extravagant sunglasses, whether the extra-round or rhinestone-studded ones at Gucci, oversized cat's eyes at Balenciaga, retro with an octagonal appeal at Bottega Veneta, or heart-shaped at Saint Laurent... And if the sun fails to make an appearance, some glasses with coloured lenses - pink, purple, yellow or blue - are sure to brighten up your lunch breaks, whoever you are dining with! At a time when "stationary travels" have become the new normal, fashion in itself has turned into an escape. Playing with style is comforting and enjoyable, and becomes a means of entertainment and fun. It's almost as if we'd forgotten that we can create looks for ourselves and not just for other people... And working from home isn't the only reason to dress up: online yoga classes or virtual DJ nights offer the perfect excuse to slip on the season's coolest sneakers. And as an added bonus, the soles will still be like new when they finally hit the streets.
