Once again, for the Maison Margiela Fall/Winter 2017-18 season John Galliano hit hard. The British designer has indeed focused on one of the brand’s DNA points: deconstruction. He gave a second life to trench coats and teddy jackets by cutting them, adding that original aura which differentiates the label’s creations. Accessories were not left out. The Tabi boots appeared on almost every look while the 5AC, the label’s iconic bag, was covered with feathers and worn like a hat this season. Deliciously original. Maison Margiela is a French fashion house founded in Paris in 1988 by Belgian designer Martin Margiela. The idea? Combine deconstruction and heritage in order to elevate fashion to an art instead of putting a spotlight on a designer. In 1994, the label launched "Replica", a concept that recreates old clothes to give them a second life. Three years later, the brand started MM6, its diffusion line, before announcing a men's line two years later. Accessories also have their lines. In 2007, the house launched Line 8, its eyewear collection, followed by its jewelry collection, Line 10, in 2008. In 2010, the brand released its first fragrance. In 2012, the Artisanal collection of Maison Margiela officially received the “haute couture” title. Two years later, John Galliano was appointed Creative Director of the brand.

 

John Galliano was born in Gibraltar in 1960 and studied at Central Saint Martins School in London, where he graduated in 1988. His first collection was a hit and the Browns store bought it all. A year later, he presented his first show in Paris. He met with success quite early but it took a few more years for the LVMH group to appoint him Creative Director of a first big label, Givenchy, in 1995. A year later, the Parisian group offered him Gianfranco Ferré’s position at Dior. He worked for the Avenue Montaigne brand for eleven years, before leaving in March 2011. Three years later, in 2014, John Galliano was appointed Creative Director of Maison Margiela.
