The Alexander McQueen brand was founded in 1992. At the time, the British designer had just graduated from Central Saint Martins School and his designs were already a major success. The stylist Isabella Blow had purchased the entire graduation collection. Avant-garde and unconventional, influenced by Baroque and Gothic art, the British fashion designer quickly became famous in the fashion industry. In 2001, supported by the Kering Group, he expanded his label’s activities and three years later, he launched a men’s line, a first fragrance and a diffusion line, McQ.
On February 11, 2010, Lee McQueen commit suicide, leaving the future of the brand uncertain. A few days later, the Kering Group announced its ambition to preserve the label’s heritage.Sarah Burton, who was born in England in 1974, aimed at a stylist career. Like Lee Alexander McQueen she studied at the prestigious Central St Martins School of Art in London and joined the British House for the first time as an intern while she was still a student. When she graduated in 1997, she was hired as a personal assistant to the English designer. Three years later, she was named head of the women's design studio. Following Lee Alexander McQueen’s premature death in 2010, she took over the creative direction of the label. Passionate about artisans’ knowledge and expertise, her collections use the brand’s main codes. In 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, chose her to design her wedding dress.
