Karl Lagerfeld, one of fashion’s most famous figures, founded his eponymous brand in 1984. But the label did not find its audience and ceased its activities in the 90s. Eight years later, the designer revived it under the name Lagerfeld Gallery. Once again, the business was shut down in 2011. A year later, the brand gave it another try launching two lines sold exclusively on the internet: Karl and Karl Lagerfeld Paris. The designer reinterpreted his wardrobe iconic pieces such as high collar shirts, leather gloves, baroque jewelry and black and white color schemes.
Karl Lagerfeld was born in Germany in 1938 and arrived in France when he was still a young man. In 1954, the future couturier won the first prize of the International Wool Secretariat, tied with Yves Saint Laurent who was still unknown at the time. He was then spotted by Pierre Balmain, who made him his assistant. In 1959, he joined Jean Patou as Creative Director before working at Chloé. In 1965, Fendi called on him to rejuvenate its business. The designer came up with the Double F logo and added a fun aspect to the brand, which is still successful nowadays. In 1983, Chanel turned to him to give new energy to the label. Between 1992 and 1997, the fashion designer worked for the Chloe House again. As he was globally famous for his artistic aura, in 2004, he collaborated with the Swedish giant H&M for the brand’s first masstige collection. Visionary and eclectic, Karl Lagerfeld is a complete artist. The Kaiser, as he was nicknamed by the fashion industry, addresses any form of artistic expression: photography, cinema, design.
