It seems that the results of the American election have affected the entire fashion microcosm. This season we have seen numerous collections celebrating joy and liveliness (weapons against distress). At Miu Miu, the Fall/Winter 2017-18 line features bright spring colors as to stay away from pessimism. Keep on having fun but keep it gentle, with total fluffy fur looks that call for cocooning, and wide collar and shoulder jackets that could help us carry the weight of the world. One last commandment: stay glamorous in the face of the prevailing machismo with ultra-feminine skirts and dresses that expose a few square centimeters of skin. We got the message.
Miu Miu was founded in 1992. Sister brand of the Prada House, the Italian label offers clothes inspired by Miuccia Prada’s personal wardrobe, at lower prices than the parent company’s. With a somewhat more mischievous aesthetic, the brand targets slightly younger customers. A specificity that is reflected in their advertising campaigns, recently starring Hailee Steinfeld and Kaia Gerber. In 2015, the brand released its first fragrance called Miu Miu.
Miuccia Prada, who was born in 1949, did not aim for a career in fashion. After studying political science and training to become a mime at Piccolo Teatro, she joined her mother in the fashion House in 1970. Eight years later, she succeeded her and launched her first handbag, a nylon tote, in 1979. Her talent as a fashion designer was recognized early on: in 1993, four years after launching her first ready-to-wear collection, she was awarded the International Award at the CFDA Awards. Twenty years later, in 2013, the British Fashion Awards added a new category to their list, International Designer of the Year and Miuccia Prada won the prize.
