In 2016, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the formidable creative team behind Proenza Schouler, gave their bag range a rethink. The result is the Hex, a reworking of the bucket bag with little bands of leather stitched on to one another. This gives the bag a feeling of movement reinforced by the chain crossbody that adds class and a feeling of lightness. Chic and edgy, a bag for women who like to transport their essentials and keep the fuss to a minimum.

Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler

There is something minimalist and yet incredibly ornamental about the designs from Proenza Schouler. For the 2018 Spring-Summer collection and the brand’s first show in Paris, at the same time as couture week, the American brand used the greatest craftsmen available. The clothes are spare as always, with well-placed frills and cut in original, rich materials. For the accessories, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough designed jewellery made from Murano glass as well as handbags covered in feathers and fur but also totes and handy little satchels (the PS1 and the PS11 are still around). A triumph.

The Proenza Schouler brand was founded in 2002 by the artistic duo of designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. After meeting at the Parson's School of Design, they decided to join forces to present a thesis. This first collection caught the eye of the department store Barney’s who bought all pieces. The designers then renamed their label Proenza Schouler, a combination of their mothers’ maiden names. The New York fashion brand is renowned for its ability to mix artisanal elements and urban comfort. This explosive cocktail is also reflected in accessories. In 2008, the brand launched its first handbag: PS1. Practical and chic but relaxed, this pouch is still one of the best-sellers of the label.

One of them is from Miami; the other spent his childhood travelling, before moving to San Francisco. When Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough met shortly before starting Parson's School of Design, they had one thing in common: they were not New Yorkers. As they took several courses together, they soon decided to work as a duo, including on the design of their final collection. A bold but rewarding decision since the clothing line launched their professional collaboration by becoming the first collection of the Proenza Schouler brand.
