The Michael Kors brand was founded in 1981. Initially sold exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks, the label quickly became renowned. In 1990, the American designer launched his first diffusion line: Kors Michael Kors. Following the recession, the label filed for bankruptcy three years later before resurrecting in 2004 under the name Michael Michael Kors. Famous around the world, the brand is renowned for its both functional and glamorous approach to fashion. The idea? Simple pieces that offer comfort and elegance. In 2010, Michael Kors was rewarded with the CFDA Awards Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
Michael Kors, who was born in 1959, has always liked fashion but first aimed to become an actor. After taking some acting lessons, he reviewed his priorities and started creating his first clothes, which he sold in his basement. He then joined the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York in 1977 but only stayed for a year, as he chose to focus on his job at the trendy Lothar's boutique. His superiors, who noticed his talent in advising customers, gave him the opportunity to design some pieces. Success was immediate and in 1981, the fashion designer founded his eponymous brand. In 1997, he was chosen to become the first Creative Director of the Céline brand. A position he held for six years, before returning to the United States where he expanded his empire in 2004 launching the Michael Michael Kors line.As part of his strong involvement in charities, he has been an important supporter of God's Love We Deliver, an NGO distributing meals to HIV patients, for many years. Since 2015, he has been Global Ambassador Against Hunger for the World Food Program of the United Nations.
